How It Works

The MadiSUN Solar Group Program is a community-based solar group purchasing program. On behalf of homeowners, MadiSUN negotiated a limited-time group discount price for an average savings of 20% on the cost of installing solar energy. Even better, as more participants enroll, the cost of solar gets more affordable for everyone who joins.

MadiSUN Group Solar partners also provide free technical assistance and can help you take advantage of financial incentives, discounted pricing and utility rates to make solar more affordable. The effort is supported by the City of Madison and is made possible through Recovery Act funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar America Cities program.

Completed Installations from the First Residential Group Program

Launched in June 2011, the MadiSUN Residential Group Solar project supported by the City of Madison and the Department of Energy’s Solar America Communities program, had 22 households enroll in the program. This represents a 11% increase in the total number of residential owned solar installations in the Madison area. In total, about 90 kW of green solar energy was installed representing a 10% increase in the total number of kW of residential owned solar installations in the Madison area. Over 3,000,000 kWh of renewable energy will be produced over the lifetime of these installations which will reduce the emission of 124.3 ton of C02 per year into the environment.
